Description
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) will host the "Set Theory and its Applications to Algebra and Analysis" workshop in Oaxaca, from September 6 to September 11, 2026.
The workshop is designed to explore connections between set theory and infinite combinatorics to other branches of mathematics, with a special emphasis on algebra and analysis. Very interesting interactions have recently been found between set theory, homological algebra, and algebraic topology. It is in our interest to continue with this research and promote this study that involves infinite combinatorics and various areas of mathematics. Expert researchers in these topics will be invited to the workshop. We will also have a special focus on the construction and analysis of various infinite combinatorial structures (such as ultrafilters, MAD families, and coherent sequences, among others) and to apply them in areas such as algebra, topology, and functional analysis. The program will bring together senior researchers in the field, students, and junior researchers.
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) in Mexico, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and Alberta Technology and Innovation. The research station in Oaxaca is funded by UNAM and IIMAS.
