Description

The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) will host the "Symmetries, Invariants and Singularities in Algebraic Geometry with a view towards Latin America" workshop in Oaxaca, from August 16 to August 21, 2026.

We are pleased to announce the 5-day workshop ``Symmetries and Singularities in Algebraic Geometry with a view towards Latin America'' dedicated to fostering collaboration and strengthening ties among Latin American research groups in algebraic geometry and singularity theory. This event will bring together leading researchers from across Latin America, Europe, and the USA, providing a platform to exchange ideas, advance scientific research, and build lasting partnerships.

The workshop will highlight the vibrant research community in Latin America, focusing on singularities, symmetries and related fields within algebraic geometry. By uniting young and established researchers, the event aims to shape the future of algebraic geometry in the region and beyond, promoting long-term collaborations and expanding networks on an international scale.

The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) in Mexico, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and Alberta Technology and Innovation. The research station in Oaxaca is funded by UNAM and IIMAS.
