Description
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) will host the "Mathematical and Statistical Challenges in Post-Pandemic Epidemiology and Public Health" workshop in Oaxaca, from June 15 to June 20, 2025.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made it evident that the field of infectious disease epidemiology needs a fresh look and a stronger foundation to address the mathematical and statistical challenges in the post-pandemic world, in which human behaviour, heterogeneity, and multi-strain dynamics in response to an ongoing epidemic can no longer be left out of mathematical models. Introduction of more complex models and data leads to statistical challenges that will need to be overcome in order for infectious disease modelling to remain relevant to policy-makers and public health practitioners. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together experts with a range of expertise to identify and address those challenges.
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) in Mexico, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology.
