Description
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) will host the "Frontiers in Billiard Dynamics" workshop in Oaxaca, from May 30 to June 04, 2021.
Mathematical billiards are a fast growing field of the modern theory of dynamical systems and a deep source of insights, methods and examples in dynamics. It has greatly impacted many areas, ranging from integrable Hamiltonian systems and KAM theory, hyperbolic (chaotic) systems, to Teichmuller dynamics. It has also stimulated much recent applied research in such areas of mathematical physics as equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and quantum theory.
The proposed workshop will bring together leading mathematicians, mathematical physicists, and younger researchers whose work is connected to the theory and applications of billiard dynamics from a variety of perspectives. Topics will include new modalities of billiard systems, with special attention given to applications to statistical physics such as, for example, the study of classical and quantum transport phenomena.
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) in Mexico, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT). The research station in Oaxaca is funded by CONACYT
