Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "Connecting Network Structure to its Dynamics: Fantasy or Reality?" workshop in Banff from September 26 to October 1, 2021.
A key challenge in biology and medicine is to understand how network of interacting genes gives rise to cellular behavior. Experimental limitations and the big data generated by 'omics technologies requires the development of quantitative approaches to overcome this challenge. In the context of mathematical models this challenge takes form of predicting complex dynamic behavior of gene and signaling networks inside cells. Construction of appropriate models is difficult due to large uncertainty in the state of the cell, the efficiency of its enzymes, and the form of interactions between genes.
In this workshop leading systems biologists and mathematical modelers will discuss how the newest mathematical ideas on how to capture dynamic behavior of cellular networks addresses outstanding problems in both system biology and synthetic biology.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
