Free Resolutions, Representations, and Asymptotic Algebra (16w5155)
Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "Free Resolutions, Representations, and Asymptotic Algebra" workshop from April 3rd to April 8th, 2016.
A central idea in modern mathematics is that complicated structures can stabilize, or become apparent, only for sufficiently large values of a parameter. This workshop focuses on new explicit algebraic versions of this general phenomenon. Specifically, recent asymptotic results on free resolutions and equivariant commutative algebra point towards a common underlying source. This workshop will, for the first time, bring together a wide range of mathematicians interested in these algebraic asymptotic ideas. The main challenge will be to refine these new asymptotic methods and identify the most promising new directions for study.
