Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "The Future of Trace Formulas" workshop from June 1st to June 6th, 2014.

Automorphic functions are special functions that possess rich symmetries. The theory of automorphic
functions, and more generally the theory of automorphic representations, has always been a central part
of mathematics, with the trace formula being one of the most powerful tools in their study. The goal of
this workshop is to take advantage of a number of significant recent developments in the subject to bring
together researchers and new Ph.D.'s in the area of automorphic representations and trace formula, both
to review the current state of the art and to set stage for the future direction of the subject.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
