Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Creative Writing in Mathematics and Science (HALF)" workshop from November 10th to November 15th, 2013.

This workshop is concerned with writing about mathematics and science
and giving the general public the chance to have a glimpse at our world
without having to become experts. It is about the achievements and the
beauty of mathematics and science, and the struggle to understand the
problems we are working on. We are aiming to bring together both
established and young mathematicians and scientist who also write
about their field, exchange ideas, and find new and ingenious ways
to reach the general public through creative writing.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
