Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Mixed Boundary Value Problems in Nonsmooth Domains" workshop from June 12th to June 19th, 2011.

The purpose of this Focused Research Group is to study elliptic boundary value problems with mixed Dirichlet and Neumann type boundary conditions in nonsmooth domains. These include the class of domains with finitely many/isolated singularities (such as corners or edges) in two and three dimensions and the class of Lipschitz domains in arbitrary dimensions (which typically exhibit infinitely many singular boundary points, some of which may be accumulating). Theoretically, we plan to study issues regarding well-posedness of such problems when the data is from $L^p$-based Sobolev spaces, $1
The research group is composed of a blend of junior and more established researchers who have recently made contributions to theoretical and numerical problems related to the proposed program.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
