Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "Quantum Control " workshop from April 3rd to April 8th, 2011.
The emergence of nanotechnology, quantum information, and the ever-increasing miniaturization of electronic devices has led to a scientific and technological regime where the control of quantum systems are of paramount importance. In this area of quantum control, research has been progressing largely along two parallel streams - the development of specific control schemes by physicists, chemists and engineers, and the development of a mathematical theory by mathematicians. The proposed 5-day workshop on Quantum Control aims to take advantage of newly emerging links between these two diverse communities in order to develop much-needed synergies within this rapidly moving field.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
