Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Advances and Perspectives on Numerical Methods for Saddle Point Problems” workshop next week, April 12 - April 19, 2009.

Large scale saddle point problems arise in virtually every scientific discipline. Examples are fluid dynamics, optimal control, optimization, graphics, image and signal processing, and many more. It is generally impossible to solve these problems without the use of computer simulations. This workshop will bring together experts from various scientific disciplines, and will be devoted to advancing the development of efficient, robust, and accurate numerical solution methods.


The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologí­a (CONACYT).
